Untouched World is the first fashion company in the world to be recognised by the United Nations for sustainability…
When it comes to sustainable fashion, Snowy Peak Ltd (parent company of Untouched World and Merino Mink) is a world leader, with the ethos to enhance not harm the environment and to consider the impact on the planet, its flora and fauna. The production process is free of pollution and well as the use of Brushtail Possum fibre in New Zealand, which is extremely beneficial to the environment.
Here at Possum Merino we are proud to offer the best knitwear from New Zealand. Our collections from Untouched World and Merino Mink will make you look and feel fantastic, with luxurious quality and authentic heritage. The collections are designed with a less is more aesthetic – to be easy care, easy wear and easy on the earth. From the luxurious Ecopossum™ to fine Merino, only the highest quality sustainable fabrics, fibres and yarns are used.
With the latest campaign #whatsinmywash, recently launched, the benefits of using natural fibres becomes even more apparent. Environmental charity Hubbub has recently revealed that 44% of the public are completely unaware that microfibres are released into our waterways when we wash our clothes and often end up in our food..
To quote ‘Synthetic clothing is on the rise and now accounts for around 60% of all clothing produced, however the survey of over 2,000 people across the UK showed 44% of people don’t realise that synthetic fibres such as polyester, acrylic or nylon are actually plastic. Whilst 71% are aware of plastic microbeads and their impact on the environment, only 56% know what microfibres are and these actually pose a much bigger problem. Half a million tonnes of plastic microfibres a year contribute to ocean pollution– 16 times more than the plastic microbeads from cosmetics.’
The number one tip they give is to ‘Buy higher-quality clothes which are more durable and you can get more wears from. Synthetic clothes ending up in landfill are a growing source of secondary microplastic pollution because they gradually break down into micro sized plastic particles.’ For more information, click here.
So this winter, we urge you to consider what you are wearing and opt for timeless, long-lasting garments over more the more throw-away alternatives..

Are the animals from the wild and uf so how killed, or are they bred for the making of these garments in which case how are they contained and treated? Please give me an honest response. I am not a mad animal rights fanatic and I own 2 lovely cardigans of yours … but I still feel rather in the dark about the provenance and production of them and would like to know the full facts before purchasing another item. Thank you .
Dear Caroline
Thank you so much for your comment and I hope the following helps but please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
Possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 from Australia and they are our countries biggest ecological threat. They are considered vermin, similar to how the British consider rats.
Much of the control of possums previously has been through broadcast toxic chemicals which New Zealand wants to reduce or eliminate. For this purspose, the possums are humanely trapped or shot for the possum fibre.
Consequestly, the use of brush tail possum fur benefits our environment by a contributing to a reduction in the use of broadcast poisons and to the efforts to protect our native forest and birds.
The Department of Conservation DOC and World Wild Life Fund WWF support our use of possum fur as a legally classified fur.
The primary brand that we stock, Untouched World (and sister company Merino Mink) is the only lifestyle fashion brand in the world to be recognised by the United Nations for sustainability.
Please do let us know if we can give any more information and I hope this give you a better understanding.
With best wishes,
Heather and Brent
